Data Entry Position
The New-York Historical Society seeks one person to do data entry work
onto the Society's new collections management database in conjunction
with institution-wide preparations for the Fall 2000 opening of The
Henry Luce Center for the Study of American Culture, a newly-designed
collection access facility on the Society's fourth floor.
Data entry personnel will be responsible for entering exisiting
catalogue information onto the Society's database (Willoughby
Associates' Multi-MIMSY system) to help create a comprehensive
electronic resource for the Society's museum collection of fine
arts,material culture and decorative objects (household objects,
political memorabilia, personal accessories, tools, etc.). Duties
include entering information from paper records already created by
cataloguers, as well as entering additional information found in
additional collection records and catalogues.
The data entry station, dedicated to entering exisitng manual catalogue
records for the material culture and decorative arts collections, is
currently located at the Society's off-site collection storage facility
located in lower Manahattan.
Data entry personnel will report to the Luce Center Project Manager.
Experience working with msueum collection databases, rapid and accurate
typing skills, proven writing skills and a strong familiarity with
American History, American Studies, Art History or related fields
required. Research experience preferred. Part-time, $12.50 per hour
