REPOSTING

The Upstate History Alliance is seeking a Program Coordinator.   The Program
Coordinator will be responsible for developing, implementing and promoting
programs and activities at the Upstate History Alliance, including the tasks
associated with the Regional Archivist position in the South Central Region
of the Documentary Heritage Program. The Program Coordinator reports to the
Director and works collaboratively with other staff members and board task
forces.

The Upstate History Alliance, in Oneonta, NY is a non-profit organization
which provides support, advice and training to historical societies,
museums, historians and others interested in history in upstate New York.
Our mission is to build the capacity of upstate history organizations to use
history to engage the public in shaping their communities. Our activities,
programs and services are geared towards fulfilling the following goals:

*    Ensuring that our constituents understand, embrace and aspire towards a
set of standards and best practices
*    Providing tools for constituents to present the full diversity of their
communities, past and present
*    Facilitating the use and sharing of resources and expertise to
strengthen all upstate history organizations
*    Achieving a broader understanding of the value of history

The successful applicant for Program Coordinator will have a passion for the
museum and archives professions.  He/she will be a self-starter and be also
able to work as a successful team leader and member.  Applicants should be
able to demonstrate knowledge of current museum or archive practices and of
the changing role of museums in communities.   The position requires
excellent speaking and writing skills, flexibility and reliability.

Applicants should have a Bacheloršs or Masteršs degree in a relevant area
and experience working in museums, libraries, archives or other cultural
agencies.    He/she should have word processing and basic data base computer
skills;  web site development experience a plus.   The position involves
travel throughout New York State. The salary range is upper 20s with
benefits.

Specific duties of the Program Coordinator include:

*  Coordination of workshops, conferences, roundtables and other
professional training opportunities for both UHA and DHP.
*  Assist with special projects such as the Institutes at Sagamore, Protest
Project, and History Fair
*  Edit and layout quarterly newsletters
*  Maintain the web site.
*  Serve as the primary information provider to constituents.
*  Create and distribute promotional materials including press releases,
listserve messages, and flyers featuring UHA news, events, and programs.
*  Recruit and supervise student interns and/or volunteers.
*  Write grants for special projects relating to collections management
