INTRODUCTION TO PRESERVATION
Dates: Tuesday, June 5, 2007
Place and Time: Hinds Community College, Raymond, MS, 9 am to 4 pm

Description: Introduction to Preservation emphasizes preventive measures
and includes information on the elements of a comprehensive preservation
program, the nature of library materials, and the mechanisms of
deterioration. Discussions will also cover proper care and handling
practices; stack maintenance; staff and user education; and library
binding.

DEMYSTIFYING MOLD
Date: Wednesday, June 13, 2007
Place and Time: Arlington Public Library, Arlington, VA, 9 am to 4 pm 

Description: This one day class provides a general introduction to mold
and its impact on library, museum, and archival collections and
artifacts. Through lecture and discussion, the class defines how to
avoid an outbreak. Topics include: General classification of the types
of molds; molds specific to indoor environments housing collections,
artifacts, archival and library materials; a day in the life of a mold;
and more.

PRESERVATION MANAGEMENT
Date: Thursday, June 14, 2007
Place and Time: George Mason University, Fairfax, VA,  9 am to 4 pm

Description: This session will outline the manager's role in organizing
and planning preservation activities in a library or archives. It
includes lecture and discussions covering the following topics: The
nature of library materials; elements of a preservation program;
effects of storage conditions; organization and planning; staffing;
workflow; and more.
