The British Columbia Museums Association
seeks qualified applicants for the position of

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The British Columbia Museums Association (BCMA) is a 40-year-old
not-for-profit member association of institutions and individuals in
the museum and art gallery community.  With a staff of six, based in
Victoria, BC, and an elected Council, the BCMA takes a leadership
role in advocacy on behalf of our community.  The Secretariat
provides advisory services, training programs, electronic and print
communication networking and offers an annual conference.  Five
hundred and twenty Association members represent large and small
non-profit institutions throughout the Province with various
collection and exhibition interests.

The Executive Director of the BCMA provides leadership and direction
for the overall planning, management and operation of the Association
Secretariat.  Reporting to the Council, s/he ensures the development
and administration of a $400,000 annual budget.  Meeting with
government, organizations and associations in the
arts/culture/heritage field, the Executive Director takes the lead in
promoting and advocating on behalf of members and ensures strong
communication ties within the museum/gallery community.

As an applicant for this position you will have five or more years
experience in non-profit museum or gallery management, preferably in
British Columbia.  You believe in thoughtful planning and have the
ability to envision the scope of the current and future potential of
the Association.  You possess excellent interpersonal skills, and have
proven abilities to lead and to work well within a team environment.
You are comfortable with electronic communication systems and use them
personally. You have skills in market-ing, public relations, advocacy
strategies, government relations, and you are effective in grant
writing, financial and human resource management.
