Secretary of the Commonwealth

LEARNING HISTORY THROUGH ROLE PLAYING IS SUBJECT OF MASSACHUSETTS ARCHIVES
LECTURE

Secretary of the Commonwealth William Francis Galvin announced today the
next talk in a free lecture series for Massachusetts teachers. "Creating
First Person Narratives: A Classroom Success Story," will be offered on
Saturday, May 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the Massachusetts Archives on Columbia
Point in Dorchester. (220 Morrissey Boulevard, Boston, MA 02125.)

David T. Mitchell, a history and social science teacher at Masconomet
Regional High School in Topsfield, will describe a project in which his
students learned about the Revolutionary War by attending a "revolutionary
breakfast" dressed as historical characters. In another exercise, students
explored the antebellum world of Frederick Douglass. The presentation will
include lesson plans and ideas for classroom use.

The program is free and open to the public. Parking is free, and the
building is handicapped accessible. For additional information or a
brochure listing future lectures call 617-727-2816 or see our website at
