In autumn 2000, the American Museum of Natural History in New York built a
model of a Viking ship as centerpiece to the National Museum's exhibition,
"Vikings: The North Atlantic Saga." This state-of-the-art vessel is about
37' long and 12' wide (roughly 2/3 actual size), and it is strikingly
beautiful (photos can be sent by email). She was made using plans for
"Snorri," an ocean-going ship (knarr), which is the type of ship the Vikings
used for Trans-Atlantic passage. The ship traveled with the exhibition to
two venues after New York, and at the end of October we would like to place
it in a permanent home.

We are trying to locate institutions that might be interested in acquiring
this Viking ship exhibit, as we do not have the space to have it permanently
displayed. She would be an elegant addition to the right collection and
would be a perfect cornerstone for educational programs.

Please bear in mind that this is not a proper replica -- not built with
authentic techniques, and it couldn't go on the water -- but it looks
correct and received the blessing of the directors of the Viking Ship
Museums in Oslo and Roskilde (Roskilde helped oversee this project for
accuracy).

I would be delighted to hear any suggestions about organizations that may
be interested in having this excellent display. Any thoughts you have on
this would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact me at the
telephone or email below.

Thanks,

Nancy Falkin Lynn
