The Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum is seeking a Director of
Education to direct the education department staff in the implementation
of the institution’s educational goals and objectives as currently
delineated in the five-year strategic plan for education.  This position
reports to the President.

Working with Senior Management, this position will have the following
duties and responsibilities:

-       formulate policies and education philosophy
-       communicate the policies and philosophy both inside and outside the
institution
-       lead, mentor and manage the education department staff
-       develop and manage departmental budget
-       participate in the development and preparation of grant proposals and
oversee departmental grant administration
-       maintain a visible presence in the local, state, and national
professional education and research communities
-       establish communication and information exchange with museums and other
institutions engaged in science education

Candidates must have a Masters Degree and significant experience in
education, education research and administration.  A Ph.D. in education,
instructional technology, curriculum and instruction or some closely
related field with significant coursework in astronomy or other physical
sciences is strongly preferred.  A Ph.D. in physical science with a
supporting degree in one of the above delineated education fields will
also be considered.  This position requires excellent oral and written
communication skills.

The salary for this position is commensurate with education and experience.
