EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Chico, in the Sacramento Valley of northern California, is an historic
agricultural market town with a State university which has strong
programs in Agriculture, Museum Studies, Archeology and Tourism, and is
one of the most livable communities in the north state (100K + pop).

The Chico Museum Association is seeking an energetic, far-sighted
Executive Director to oversee development of an existing downtown
regional museum and the recently acquired Patrick Ranch, a National
Trust level farm site of 28 acres (endowed) with a highly significant
historic house and second related house to be moved to the site.  Assets
include extensive associated collections from both houses, environmental
and archeological resources, agricultural equipment and a remnant
pre-agriculture environment.  The site is expected to become a major
regional tourist destination.

Major responsibilities:
Serve as chief administrator of museum and historic site, working
closely with the Board on policy and physical, financial, and systemic
procedures.

Guide interpretive planning, staff/volunteer development, and programs
for adult and school age audiences.

Seek public and private funds

Oversee general maintenance of the buildings, collections, and grounds.

Requirements:
Graduate degree with at least five years in a Senior Staff position in a
museum of comparable size and complexity; strong background in one or
more of the following areas: business management, administration,
historic preservation, and fund raising with a broad working knowledge
of the other three areas; demonstrated ability in human and financial
management, planning, fund raising, marketing, internal and external
communication and intellectual leadership.

Criteria: Experience developing an historic farm museum, strength in
fundraising, and knowledge of museum practices are essential.
Non-profit management and Board development experience preferred.  A
strong subject matter background in Public History, Anthropology,
Historic Preservation, or related field is a plus.

The position requires passion, commitment, sense of humor, flexibility,
and proven leadership qualities with a talent for motivating others and
building consensus, as well as excellent organizational, interpersonal,
and written/oral communications skill.

Salary & benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.
