ASSISTANT MANAGER


The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world's finest museums, seeks an
Assistant Manager for the Antonio Ratti Textile Center.  The Assistant
Manager will be responsible for assisting the public with use of the image
database and library.  The Assistant Manager will assist the Manager with
special tours of the facility and group visits.  The Assistant Manager will
enter location changes and new catalogue information into live TMS on a
regular basis in coordination with the curatorial departments.  The
Assistant Manager will add new database records and assign storage locations
to incoming textiles.  The Assistant Manager will generate reports relating
to the storage of the textiles housed in the Center.  The Assistant Manager
will assist the storage manager of the textiles housed in the Center.  The

GARDNER


The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world's finest museums, seeks
Gardner for The Cloisters.  The Gardner will be working under the general
supervision of the Horticulture to discuss objectives, priorities,
schedules, resources available and expected results and will be working with
other gardeners to maintain and cultivate three enclosed gardens, grounds,
and propagation area and on the job training to acquire knowledge about
medieval gardens of The Cloisters in order to interpret gardens to others.
The Gardner will mow, cultivate, plant, propagate, prune, water, weed,
sweep, pot washing, lift heavy pots and climb ladders.  The Gardner will
work on the Museum's outside grounds with Monday contractual crew on special
individual assignments.  The Gardner will perform weekly grounds inspections
with Horticulturists.  The Gardner will work on preparing seasonal interior
displays that include flower arranging, and installing and maintain holiday
displays.  The Gardner will work on behind-the-scene projects that include
keeping plant records.  The ideal candidate must have general knowledge in
all aspects of practical horticulture.  The ability to use garden tools and
power equipment is required.  Must be physically fit and able to life
moderately heavy objects and climb ladders.  Must be dedicated and hard
working and able to tolerate exposure to seasonal weather conditions.  Must
have a driver's license with a good standing driving record.  Must be
self-motivated and enthusiastic, and willing to work as part of a team.
Must have good communication skills as well as computer skills in MS Word
and internet.  Must have the ability to interact with Museum visitors and
staff and be sensitive to all aspects of working in a museum environment.
Must be well rounded, and committed to achieving high horticultural
standards.  Must have the ability to prepare detailed seasonal exhibits.

ASSISTANT CONSERVATOR

Conservator will be responsible for preparing pre-transit and

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world's finest museums, seeks an
Assistant for Administration for the Ancient Near Eastern Art Department.
The Assistant for Administration will provide office reception, respond to
public inquiries, or direct to curatorial staff.  The Assistant for
Administration will type correspondence, manuscripts, loans, purchases,
gifts and other Museum forms.  The Assistant for Administration will handle
office administration under the Administrator.  The Assistant for
Administration will maintain Ancient Near Eastern departmental collection
catalogue in TMS and paper.  The Assistant for Administration will order and
maintain Ancient Near Eastern photos, office supplies and equipment.  The
Assistant for Administration will coordinate Ancient Near Eastern
departmental lectures and will maintain the Ancient Near Eastern library.
The ideal candidate must be able to follow directions as well as take
initiative.  Must have accurate typing and good computer skills.  Must have
a B.A. degree and knowledge of or interest in ancient art.  Must have
excellent communication and organizational skills.  Must have the ability to
deal with the public, detail-oriented and the ability to deal with a number
of projects and persons at one time.  Must be able to execute tasks promptly
