Hello All:

My original request (on 09/26/02) was:

> I hope to hear from those who work at institutions with
> Smithsonian affiliations - on or off list (however you feel
> most comfortable responding) - about whether your
> Smithsonian affiliation has resulted in increased exposure,
> interest, attendance and donations/sponsorships? Having
> slightly better odds of accessing some of the 140,000,000
> items in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution
> comes at a price . . . and I'm curious if you feel the price
> is worth it? Many thanks in advance to those who reply.

Over the past several days, I have received two messages off list with
information -- one of first-hand experience, one in reference to a
Smithsonian affiliated museum I will contact. In the same time, I have
received a half-dozen requests for me to share responses privately!

As I don't like being stuck in the middle -- between those wishing to
remain private and those wishing to have private information -- I hope
those interested in more Smithsonian Affiliation information would post
a request ON-LIST so as to receive information directly by those with
first-hand experience or references to share.

(Anything you get from me would have to be edited to remove specific
references. That kinda' defeats the purpose of the information in the
first place, no?)

Sincerely,

Jay Heuman
