Several months ago I wrote to the list about a fundraiser we are
having at our museum that centers on a special doll in our
collection that has ties to Revolutionary-era Boston. We are
proceeding with our plans for the event, and our development
director is planning to hire a photographer so that attendees can
have their picture taken with the doll. As collections manager, I
would be present during the event to control the situation so I'm
not worried about people attempting to handle the doll or
anything like that. But I am concerned about light exposure and
wanted to ask the list for advice.

The professional photographer is willing to work with me to limit
light as much as possible (he'll use a digital camera, which
requires less light, and a strobe for the light he is bringing)
but he can't take the photographs without adding some additional
lighting. If this was a one-time thing I'd be less concerned, but
the museum would like this to become an annual event, which means
possibly 50-100 flashes, every year. The doll is not on exhibit
at the moment (although she has been exhibited in the past) so at
least she's not getting continuous light exposure on a daily
basis. We are a small museum so I'm looking for low-tech,
low-cost suggestions. Any thoughts?
