This post inspired an idea in me that I wonder if any historic houses
from the 1800s has done for Halloween?

Have you had a magician recreate a spiritualist trick and then debunked it?

-------
Last year I started Halloween programming here at Terrace Hill, National
Historic Landmark and Iowa Governor's Residence. It's called "Scare-us"
Hill and it consists of nighttime tours and storytelling for 4 weeknights
leading up to Halloween. We have three tours each night at 6, 7 and 8 p.m.
Each tour has a specific age range that it targets. The 6 p.m is for ages 5
and up, 7 p.m. for ages 7 and up, and 8 p.m. for ages 10 and up. We take
the visitors on a tour of the mansion (Second Empire Victorian) and we play
around with lighting using flicker bulbs so it looks spookier. We also
decorate the house and put costumes and/or hats on the taxidermied animals
inside as well. After about a 20 minute tour (much briefer than our usual
tours), we take the visitors into our sitting room and have a wonderful
professional storyteller who tells them ghost stories. This is our second
year of the program and last year's event sold out. This year we added more
tours and can host up to 240 people over the 4 nights. As of this moment I
have about 115 signed up, but we will be featured in our local newspaper's
events section tomorrow, so I think my calls will increase.
