I just received a phone call inquiring about the practice of requesting funds to care for a donated object. I have not had experience with this though I have heard of a museum asking a donor to have a work framed or conserved before donating.

In this particular situation a family would be donating a large amount of work (lets say 30 paintings) by deceased member, a relatively unknown artist, to another institution. I do not know the condition of the works.

Do any of you have experience, or policies, dealing with requests for funds to help care for donations? And if so how were prices determined?

Thank you
