VISITOR SERVICES MANAGER


The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco offers a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity for an experienced, customer/visitor service professional to
plan, organize, implement, and manage a coordinated, museum-wide visitor
services program for the New Asian.  This spectacular new facility,
showcasing a world-renowned collection, will be opening to the public in
January 2003.  The incumbent will interact with all operational and
programming areas of the museum to build and maintain a commitment to
consistent excellent customer service.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the incumbent will oversee
successful floor operations through the management and supervision of front
line staff, volunteers, and functions including admissions, coat check
services, visitor information, and group sales.   Continuously seeking ways
to improve service to visitors, he/she will insure the establishment and
administration of policies and procedures which support service standards,
and enhance visitor flow, access, and satisfaction.

The Visitor Services Manager will be responsible for maintaining and
increasing overall visitor satisfaction ratings, focusing specifically on
enhancing the satisfaction ratings in areas of workforce helpfulness,
quality of visitor amenities and services.

The ideal candidate will possess extraordinary energy, drive, and vision.
Experience with arts and/or leisure audiences is desirable.

Minimum Qualifications

·    Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Relations,
Communications, or related field.
·    Five (5) years of customer service experience including three (3)
years at managerial level; or an equivalent combination of education,
training and experience.
·    Extensive knowledge of visitor service principles, practices, and
procedures in a large, high profile institution; knowledge of arts and/or
leisure audiences preferred.
·    Solid computer skills; knowledge of ticketing point of sales and
membership systems desirable.
·    Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills; strong follow
through; high level organizational, analytical, problem solving, and
conflict resolution skills.
·    Ability to develop and implement effective initiatives and strategies
to ensure consistent excellent customer service in all areas of the public
museum.
·    Ability to understand and effectively articulate the museum's mission,
activities, services, and programs; interpret museum policy and procedure
for the visitor; operate effectively in situations where no established
systems are in place or clear policies defined.
·    Ability to: train, direct, supervise, and motivate staff and
volunteers; facilitate effective cross-functional teamwork; develop and
administer budgets.
·    Ability to: establish and maintain effective working relationships
with staff, volunteers, and members of the public; exercise tact and
diplomacy at all times; demonstrate an understanding of protocol and
sensitivity to cultural diversity issues.
·    Ability to: work in fast-paced environment; adhere to deadlines;
demonstrate flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities.
Action-and results-oriented.
·    Ability to work on weekends, holidays, and some evenings.
