The National Watch & Clock Museum in Columbia, Pennsylvania has identified the collection and preservation of wristwatches a principal goal in its recently adopted Collection Plan (June 2009). The achievement of this goal will require a substantial amount of expertise in the history, manufacture and presentation of wristwatches as well as a close examination of the wristwatches already a part of the Museum collection. The National Watch & Clock Museum, thanks to financial support from the Gallet Watch Group, has created an annual, three-month long Guest Curator of Wristwatches. The individual selected for this competitive, temporary position will (in this order):

º Study, evaluate and photograph the Museum’s existing wristwatch collection

º Enhance the Museum’s collection records for wristwatches, insuring accuracy and clear descriptions

º Recommend to the Museum Curator and Museum Director vintage and modern wristwatches for acquisition

º Recommend to the Museum Curator and Museum Director possible small-scale exhibits on specific aspects of wristwatch history and technology.

º Author articles on the Museum’s wristwatch collection for the NAWCC Watch & Clock Bulletin, WatchDig.org and outside publications

The individual selected for this temporary position will receive a modest stipend, through a donation by Gallet Watch Group, to assist with living expenses during a three-month period (time frame is flexible).

Interested individuals should submit a resume and cover letter by December 1, 2011 addressing their experience in the areas mentioned above, writing sample and a timeline for when they would be able to serve in the position in 2012, to [log in to unmask] . No phone calls please.
