It's amazing--watching all the news coverage and the Coast Guard rescue
teams at work. I have to admit, I'm a bit of a booster for the Coasties
because I worked in their archive in DC from 1993-96. What a wonderful
organization, and what a great history (that few know about). I just
wanted to share that the Coast Guard Museum up at the Academy in CT has a
job opening for a curator. It's a GS-12, and the announcement is on
USAJobs. (http://www.usajobs.opm.gov) and you can click "Search Jobs" and
"Series Search" and put in 1015 in the series box, and it will come up.
I'd love to have the job, but we love Alaska and are staying put. Dr.
Robert Browning (the Coast Guard Historian) is a wonderful person to work
for. Just wanted to share this, because there will be one lucky curator
out there who lands that job. If only Senator Stevens could get the
Academy to move to, say, Sitka or Juneau <grins>.

Take Care
Amy.

ps--Rebecca, you must be so proud of your son. What a great path he's
chosen.

My son said he will let us know of any needs he comes across. He's a U.S.
Coast Guardsman on his way to New Orleans to assist in the clean-up. He did
say that it's actually a few days too early to think about starting salvage
operations, since high water won't arrive for another few days. It's
raining
hard in the Ohio Valley, which drains into the Mississippi. Once the high
water mark is hit, they'll know more.

I'm wondering if anyone in the museum community has considered organizing
efforts to contact organizations that might need 'professional' museum
assistance?
