The Bowdoin College Museum of Art, one of the nation’s oldest and most
distinguished college collections, seeks applicants for the position of
Registrar to work in all aspects of museum registration work.  This is a
three quarter-time position, with full college benefits.
Responsibilities include: document all aspects of the collections in
exhibition, storage and transit; manage and maintain manual and
computerized collections records (EmbARK, Macintosh platform); make
arrangements for loans and traveling exhibitions, including packing,
transport and insurance; process acquisitions; manage photographic
rights and reproduction services; implement the Museum’s collection
management policies and procedures, including acquisition,
deaccessioning and loan policies; write collections’ correspondence; and
supervise students, interns and volunteers.  Requirements include:
Bachelor’s degree in art history or related field; strong interpersonal,
organizational, and writing skills; thorough knowledge of works of art,
accepted museum registration methods, legal maters related to museum
collections, copyright laws, and policies governing reproduction rights;
and a thorough understanding of  insurance requirements for collections,
conservation and storage practices, packing techniques and
transportation methods. At least three years experience in the museum
registration field (art museum preferred) and strong computer skills.
