Executive Director, Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, Summit, NJ
For the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey we are seeking an Executive
Director.  The Center is a non-profit educational and arts facility located
in Summit, NJ, that provides New Jersey residents with an environment that
encourages appreciation of and participation in contemporary art through
professional instruction, creative expression, qualitative exhibitions and
dialogue.  The Executive Director will ensure programs of excellence for the
Studio Art School, Gallery and Outreach activities that respond to the needs
of the diverse population served by the Center, and will introduce new and
innovative courses and programs that will encourage new audiences and
increased visibility.

Duties include serving as the principal spokesperson for the Center; heading
community and civic outreach and relationship-building; developing and
implementing a long range strategic plan; directing and evaluating the
Center's educational programs; overseeing the Center's fiscal management;
preparing the annual budget and operating plans; working with the Board to
establish policies and procedures for a wide range of fundraising
activities, including the capital campaign; hiring, evaluating and mentoring
staff; other duties as necessary.  

The ideal candidate will have at least five years leadership experience at a
similar fine arts organization and advanced experience with the New Jersey
arts community and funding sources.  A proven track record of successful
fundraising is critical to the position.  MA in fine arts or related field
and excellent communications, managerial and mentoring skills are required.
Demonstrated ability in public speaking and full appreciation for
community-based arts education and exhibition centers essential.
