Astor House Museum Curator
Full-time Position

The Astor House Museum, located at 822 12th St., was built as a hotel in
1867 to accommodate legislators when Golden was the capital of the Colorado
Territory.

The mission of the Astor House Museum is to provide educational programs,
exhibits, and artifact preservation designed to allow and encourage the
public to appreciate Golden, Colorado’s economic and cultural development
between 1867-1908. Focusing primarily on the use of period room exhibits,
the museum interprets the story of the region’s early residents and how the
frontier hotel/boarding house was central to Colorado’s history.

Summary of responsibilities:  The Curator is responsible for overseeing
many of the day-to-day activities of the Museum. Duties include: managing
visitor services and front desk personnel; researching, producing, and
installing exhibits (three temporary exhibits per year in addition to the
permanent historic house exhibits); managing artifact collections;
supervising volunteer projects; overseeing the heritage gardens;
participating in fundraising and special events; managing preservation
activities; conducting public tours; planning and implementing educational
programs; representing the Museum in the community; and participating in
other shared activities typical of a small museum.

Qualifications:  Minimum qualifications include a B.A. in history, museum
studies, history, American studies, anthropology, or related field and at
least one year of relevant experience. Desired qualifications include
experience working in museums and a Master’s degree in history, museum
studies, or related field.

The candidate must possess strong written, communication, organizational,
and computer skills. He or she must be a team player willing to contribute
to the advancement of the organization. We are looking for someone who is
able to work in a small, busy office environment, and who is able to handle
many projects at one time.

Salary starts in the mid 20s. Benefits include 3 weeks paid vacation, 7
paid holidays, paid sick leave, and full medical coverage for employee.
Upon selection, the final candidate must undergo a drug test and background
check.
