In article <[log in to unmask]>,
[log in to unmask] (Dean DeBolt) writes:

" I also heard the "collection development" officer of another museum
describe his operation as to "develop a Smithsonian of the South." "

There is (in a way) already a "Smithsonian of the South" in Micky
Wolfson's marvelous "Wolfsonian" collection. This may not be to the
point, but his scheme certainly borrows from the encyclopedic mission of
the "Smithsonian."
