I am the Director/Curator of the South Charleston Museum, which opened to
the public on July 18, 1998. The South Charleston Museum shares a building
with the South Charleston Public Library. This is a small community in West
Virginia, located in the metro region of Charleston and Huntington, WV. The
Museum Foundation, the ruling body of the Museum, decided to move into the
Library due to financial, access, and visibility concerns. Both the library
and museum are planning a major expansion project in the very near future.
So far, the only problems we have concern lack of space! The visitors seem
to really enjoy the combination as a research facility. This is mainly due
to the fact that our collections are centered around local history.

As a second note, last month's edition of Museum News featured a cover story
of museums and libraries.
