I'm not associated with the Met but I did have to do a paper on their
financial structure a few years ago and found their annual reports  in the
library along with several books on the history of the museum (try Howe,
Winifred E. _A History of the Metropolitan Museum of Art._ New York: Arno
Press, 1974 or Hoving, Thomas, _Making the Mummies Dance: Inside the
Metropolitan Museum of Art._  New York: Simon & Schuster, 1993).

Unfortunately, I don't think any of this information is available online
unless the annual report is filed electronically (which I doubt it is). It
would be a useful resource for students in museum studies.
