[Marshall, Amy, K.] Amen. When I was in NYC, I saw a lot of people
attempting to knock at the door, and they ended up banging their heads
against walls. It's not easy, and some "placement services" offered by
universities don't know what to do with museum and social science-type
people. I remember going in to the placement office right before getting my
B.A., and since I wasn't a business major or an education major, they
couldn't help me (they said), because "there are no jobs like *that* out
there!" Luckily, I didn't listen to them.

I'm sorry to see this whole discussion on the list (although I think
I re-subscribed after the initial e-mail that set it off). Although...are
we talking about world politics or museum politics? I've seen museum
politics that make some military actions look like people just throwing
sticks at each other. I think that's another thing a list like this is good
for--making sure we avoid the snake pits that can either kill a career or
make life miserable.

Just my $0.02 adjusted for inflation.

        Cheers!
