CARE AND HANDLING OF PUBLIC LIBRARY MATERIALS

Date and Time: Thursday, September 14, 2006 from 10 am to 12 pm

An online introductory class designed to aid public libraries in
developing basic preservation strategies based on real-world issues. For
example, providing protection to library materials (books, periodicals,
videotapes, CDs, DVD) by performing basic care and handling practices

CARING FOR ORIGINALS DURING SCANNING PROJECTS

Date and Time: Friday, September 29, 2006 from 2pm to 4pm

Explore how digitization provides an opportunity to stabilize, re-house,
and even repair materials within your collections.  Discussions include
care and handling techniques before, during, and after scanning to
ensure that the original objects are not damaged during the scanning
process; environmental controls; equipment guidelines; and the
preservation issues that need to be considered before embarking on a
