The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America, headquartered at Dumbarton House, is undergoing an exciting transformation. Guided by a revised mission statement and visionary strategic plan, and governed by an engaged and dedicated board, the institution has experienced five successive years of growth—both in contributions and visitation at its historic house museum. Entering its 125th Anniversary year, and with restoration, exhibition, interpretation, and headquarters service projects on the horizon, the Development Officer will have a unique opportunity to strengthen the organization financially by diversifying and expanding its fundraising program.

 Build strong relationships with committee and NSCDA leadership, and major donors;
 Represent the NSCDA and Dumbarton House visibly in the community, attending Georgetown, community, and local NSCDA meetings, events, and functions;
 Expand local fundraising support through growth in existing museum membership and corporate sponsorship programs and/or development of new efforts;
 Implement and expand nascent planned giving program;
 Support campaign prospect research, database enhancements, committee work, and planning efforts.
Qualifications:
 Palpable enthusiasm for the preservation/patriotic service mission of the NSCDA and ability/ willingness/passion to share that enthusiasm with others;
 Strong written and oral communications skills, high degree of initiative and attention to detail;
 Highly organized team-player, with a proven ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects/deadlines;
 Diplomacy, ability to maintain high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances;
 General knowledge of tax laws and other applicable guidelines and regulations related to charitable giving and fundraising, including planned giving;
 Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree or coursework preferred; and
 At least three years of experience with fundraising, development software, and/or museum membership programs.
