Your announcement calls this a "technical assistance program" which will
deliver "practical, how-to-do-it information, theoretical
knowledge, and extensive training and resource materials."

On what? Does "technical" mean computers? Exhibit electronics? Or does
it simply refer to the technical side of management, curation, etc.

How about a list of presentation topics so we can look at the substance.

Subject: Workshop Announcement

The Southeastern Museums Conference and LaPaglia & Associates are
co-sponsoring the highly successful workshop, JUMPSTART! The workshop
will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina, August 2-5, 1998.

JUMPSTART! is a multi-faceted, technical assistance program which provides
cost-effective instruction. The intensive 3 1/2 day workshop is designed
to assist:

        * small, new, and emerging museums
        *       transitioning museums
        * personnel new to the museum field
        * personnel desiring to strengthen museum administration,
                interpretation, and collections management skills

Participants should come prepared for an intensive learning experience.
They will receive practical, how-to-do-it information, theoretical
knowledge, and extensive training and resource materials they can take
back to their institution. JUMPSTARTers will engage in discussions,
professional feedback, planning, and group activities involving case
studies. Following the program, a certificate of completion, suitable for
framing, will be given at an awards banquet.

Rooms are available at the Holiday Inn State Capital for $69.00 (plus 12%
tax) per night, single or double. Announce that you are attending the
SEMC JUMPSTART! workshop. Call (919) 832-0501 for reservations. Rooms
will be held until July 20, 1998.

The registration fee ($200 for SEMC members; $240 for non-SEMC members)
will cover training, workshop and resource materials, individual
consultation with instructors, refreshments, two lunches, and the awards
banquet.

The registration deadline is July 20, 1998. Limited to the first
twenty-five (25) registrants. For registration forms or further
information, please contact:

or, you may contact me. Early registration at the Holiday Inn is critical
as our state legislature is still in session, and hotel rooms are hard to
come by!
