The afternoon's events features both poster sessions and invited
speakers.  Speakers include:

Diane Frankel, Director, Institute of Museum Services
Ms. Frankel will describe the role of IMS and other Federal agencies in
funding research in the museum field, including synopses of museum/school
partnerships supported by the IMS Museum Leadership Initiative.

Scott and Janice Paris, Department of Psychology, University of Michigan
"A Conceptual Framework for Assessing Learning and Motivation in
Museums": a presentation on the principles of constructivist learning and
intrinsic motivation that provide a learning model to assess visitors'
interactions with museum exhibits.  Based on research conducted on two
hands-on activities at the Henry Ford Museum.

Beth Twiss-Garrity, Curator of Education, Winterthur Museum
"Learning How Visitors Learn": presents research conducted by the
Education Research Team of Winterthur.  The team's initial question was,
"Is learning related to reading as 'visual literacy' suggests?"

Ms. Frankel will also moderate a panel presentation of the afternoon's
poster sessions:
