The Society for the History of Technology invites nominations for its Dibner
Award, established in 1985 to recognize excellence in museums and museum
exhibits that interpret the history of technology, industry, and engineering
to the general public. Winning exhibits, in addition to being well designed
and produced, should raise pertinent historical issues. Artifacts and
images should be used in a manner that interests, teaches, and stimulates
both the general public and historians. Also, entire institutions, rather
than just exhibits, may be considered for this award.

The winners will be announced at the Society's Annual Meeting in Amsterdam,
7-10 October, 2004. The Award consists of a plaque and up to $1000.00 to
cover expenses for a member of the design team to accept the award at the
SHOT awards banquet. The Society especially encourages nominations from
local and regional historical societies.

Anyone, including the institution or individual responsible for its
creation, may nominate an exhibit for the Dibner Award. This should be
within two years of the exhibit's opening. Nominations should include a
nomination form (with names of possible reviewers) and materials that will
assist the committee in evaluating the exhibition or museum (exhibit script,
related publications, slides or a videotape). All materials sent will be
kept by SHOT for archival purposes.

The deadline for nominations for the 2004 award is 1 February 2004.
Nominations forms can be obtained from the SHOT website and should be send
to the Committee Chair:
