The Joliet Area Historical Museum seeks an experienced curator to manage
its local historical collection of approximately 15,000 artifacts and
documents.  The museum will be moving into a new, 7 million dollar state-of-
the art facility in the Summer of 2002.  Immediate duties will be working
with the museum’s exhibit and architecture consultants to prepare the
collection for transfer and installation.  General responsibilities will
include formulating and implementing collections management policies and
procedures, computerization of collection records, assisting with grant
applications for collections/exhibit projects, budgeting for collections
care and exhibition activities, planning and installation of temporary
exhibits, monitoring the condition of the collection, overseeing
conservation work, research, training collection volunteers and the
promotion and future development of the collection through public
outreach,  Requirements:  Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in
History, Museum Studies or related field with 3-5 years of curatorial
experience, knowledge of professional museum standards and practices,
computer data base skills, excellent organizational, writing, and speaking
skills, and the ability to work with as part of a team with paid staff and
volunteers   Experience with moving a collection and managing a changing
exhibition program are a definite plus.  Successful candidate must relocate
to Joliet within 9 months of start date.  Starting Salary: 32K with
