I highly recommend the book "Moving the Mountain," which richly details
the move of the Science Museum of Minnesota. During the course of the
move, they dealt with a large variety of collections. The book provides
a excellent description of their experiences and lots of practical
advice.

of Minnesota Guide to Moving Collections. Science Museum of Minnesota,

Subject: Moving a Natural History Collection

Hello,
My name is Nicole and I am doing a work term at The Rooms Provincial
Muse=
um
of Newfoundland and Labrador - we are currently researching the most
effective way to move the natural history collection to its new home
abou=
t
5km away. There are over 5000 specimens that need to be rehoused -
mostly=

consisting of various sized bottles. If anyone has experience moving any

type of museum collection and has some advice I will gladly accept
anythi=

that comes my way. We are also looking into the necessary components to
=

barcode the museum collection if anyone has experience with that.
Thanks a lot
Nicole
