I am pleased to say that, at the opening of an exhibition of war art
yesterday in the Parliament Buildings, the Ministers of Canadian Heritage,
National Defence and Veterans' Affairs announced that land is being set
aside on the site of the old airbase at Rockliffe, near the National
Aviation Museum for a new Canadian War Museum.

The new museum will bring together all our staff and collections into a
single complex and give us significantly increased exhibition, programs and
storage space in a purpose-built building. This will allow us to exhibit
much more than the 1% of our collection we can now show at any time, and
will be a great improvement over the old archives building that now houses
the museum and the former tramcar garage that is home to our collection.

Financing for the new complex is being put together and we hope that we will
be in our new home by as early as the spring of 2003.
