Which reminds me, not to get too far off the beaten track (we're already way off-topic!), of one of my favorite memories of Washington.  I was
driving down North Capitol Street on my way to the Smithsonian one morning, and noticed that the flag atop Union Station was blowing one
direction, while the one atop the Capitol was blowing in another direction.  You couldn't tell, in short, which way the wind was blowing--an apt
metaphor if there ever was one . . .
