The Hershey Museum of Hershey, PA has an internship opportunity in the 
curatorial department for summer 2007. See below for description of duties 
and responsibilities. Please feel free to pass this along to other folks that may 
have an interest. 

This is an exciting time at Hershey Museum. We are planning a brand new 
facility (construction will begin soon) with exciting, interactive exhibits, a 
chocolate lab and chocolate cafe. Hershey Museum is part of the M.S. 
Hershey Foundation, a non-profit cultural and education organization.

Curatorial Internship at the Hershey Museum

The Hershey Museum located in Hershey, Pennsylvania seeks a qualified intern 
candidate to work with the curatorial staff on several ongoing projects. The 
Hershey Museum consists of three main collections, a Native American 
Collection that includes artifacts from the Eastern Woodlands, Plains, 
Southwest, and Northwest Pacific Coast; a collection of Pennsylvania German 
artifacts documenting the daily life of central Pennsylvanians; and the Hershey 
Collection which documents the life, businesses and philanthropies of Milton S. 
Hershey. A successful candidate will work 15-20 hours per week during normal 
operating hours (M-F 8:00-5:00).

The intern will assist the curatorial staff with:
•	Inventory justification of the museum’s records
•	Catalog new acquisitions
•	Computerization of the museum’s donor records
•	Digitization of pertinent records/photographs and linking documents 
to the collections management database
•	Prepare artifacts to be deaccessioned, including identifying 
appropriate institutions for disposition
•	Additional tasks as necessary and time permits

Qualifications:
•	Master’s degree candidate in Museum Studies, American Studies, 
History or similarly related field. Exceptional college Junior or Senior candidates 
will also be considered
•	Basic knowledge of standard museum curatorial practice
•	Interest to pursue a career in the museum field
•	Excellent written and oral communication skills and legible handwriting
•	Detail oriented
•	Ability to work independently
•	Ability to lift 25lbs and climb ladders
•	Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel; 
experience with database software and ability to quickly learn new software 
programs. Experience with Past Perfect Museum Software is a plus. 
•	Valid driver’s license
•	Multitasking and ability to prioritize project needs
