Hi Janice,
I used to answer each and every one of these until fairly recently. And I
get a lot- more and more via e-mail. Young people are being told that
they need to send out at least 100 resumes to even stand a ghost of a
chance at a nibble. I like to call it resume spam. I personally don't
think this is good advice as I would target a much smaller pool of
prospective employers with a more precise and studied solicitation.
If I can tell from a cover letter that someone has done their homework
(they know what we collect, what our mission is, etc.) I will write back
with advice. If it is the standard- "I can bring my unique talents and
abilities to vastly improve your operation and I will anxiously await your
positive response." I pitch it.
Sincerely,
David Ryan
