I have found Past Perfect to be very easy to use and thousands of
dollars less than Argus. However, I have a relatively small collection
(<70,000 objects) and staff without extensive computer background. I do
find that Past Perfect is excellent for art, history, anthropology, and
ethnographic collections, but it can be limiting for natural history
specimens. What you need will eventually be determined by the size and
variety of your collections, the support staff available, and budget. I
would try to get a look at Past Perfect (you can get a demonstration
disc, and probably find a nearby museum running it). I would also
recommend looking at the article on planning for a collections system at
http://www.chin.gc.ca/Resources/Collect_Mgnt/e_plan.html

Good luck.
