DVDs life spans are considerably longer than any VHS tape, because 
there is nothing to stretch out.  Unfortunately if the DVD is burned on 
a home computer as to a recording professional studio burner, the 
information can not be burned "deep enough" if you can say it that way. 
  I know we have had some trouble with DVDs made on the artists computer 
at home, but the final copy that that they have professionally made 
work with out issues.

The difference in life spans is like comparing apples and oranges 
though.  We all know the quickest way to kill a DVD, scratch it.
