For years, graduate students from all disciplines at the University of
Chicago have been passing their German reading proficiencies with April
Wilson's _German Quickly_ (New York: P. Lang, 1993). It is available
through Amazon, along w/ April's comments & those of one recent student.
This is strictly a text to help you read German, focusing on the
grammatical structure of the written language. Working through this book
with a good dictionary will give you a good foundation.
