THE WOODY GUTHRIE ARCHIVES PRESERVATION PLANNING SUCCESS STORY

CURATORS AND ARCHIVISTS AT THE WOODY GUTHRIE ARCHIVES HAVE HELPED ENSURE
THE LONGEVITY of Guthrie's personal notebooks, drawings, and scrapbooks
by doing their "preservation homework," and by planning and carrying out
the activities required to protect the original works of this legendary
artist who inspired musicians such as Pete Seeger, Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan,
Joan Baez, and Bruce Springsteen.

OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, THE NORTHEAST DOCUMENT CONSERVATION CENTER
(NEDCC) has helped guide the Woody Guthrie Archives through a successful
preservation planning process that included an initial site visit,
consultations on specific materials, a formal preservation planning
survey, and a grant proposal, culminating in the recent conservation
treatment and digitization of selected items from the Archives at NEDCC.
