Amy,

I have no idea whether or not sending random resumes works. I get
blind applications all the time inspite of the fact that I am a ONE PERSON
OPERATION WHO WILL NEVER HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HIRE! So,
do your research. Also, I have NEVER recieved a follow up call. Unless
you have a specific contact at the institution in question, send your
resume to personnel/human resources. Finally, lately I've been getting
cover letters with long personal histories/sob-stories (my husband is
getting transfered, etc). Just tell us/them the ways in which your past
experience would make you a perfect addition to their institution.
Frankly, nobody cames about your home life, plus, it's ILLEGAL for
potential employers to ask about things like that, so why volunteer the
info.

Sorry if you know this stuff already. I'm sure that other Museum-l
readers will give you advice about specific places to find job listings.
