There was a report done by the Port Authority of New York in 1992-3 on
   the economic impact of the cultural industry.  It is reasonably well
   sliced and diced, allowing one to examine the impact of the for profit
   and not for profit aspects of culture in NYC, as well as that of
   museums vs performing arts.  NYC is different not only in quantity,
   but in the way that culture works in the fabric of the City's life, so
   I'm not sure how well it would transfer.
