The Sharlot Hall Museum, an 80 year old regional history and natural history institution situated on a 3+ acre campus in the heart of Prescott, Arizona, seeks an experienced, energetic professional to lead the Museum Education Department at an exciting time. The Museum is AAM-accredited and welcomes over 30,000 visitors/year. This Education Curator position includes managing staff, overseeing gallery interpretation, group visits, visitor services, educational outreach, public programming, museum volunteers and staff and volunteer training.

The Curator of Education is responsible for managing all activities related to implementation and evaluation of museum education programs, guided tours, custom tours, living history presentations, museum historical theatrical productions, volunteers, and special events for site visitors. Responsibilities include developing new programs outlines and conducting training on subject matter and program delivery techniques to subordinate staff and volunteers. Programs serve four distinct audiences: (1) k-12 students and educators, (2) family and community historians and researchers, (3) scholars, and (4) other historical organizations and initiatives. These groups are served through onsite resources, over the internet, via publications, and outreach activities. 

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:
- Experience leading a history-related education department within a museum    
  environment; 
- Awareness of new ideas and developments within the public history and education     
  communities, particularly in the area of delivering content via the internet;
- Solid knowledge of Arizona History;
- Knowledge of the Educational Standards of the AZ Department of Education;
- Strategic planning and innovative thinking skills;
- Excellent writing skills that can be adapted for different audiences;
- Confident and engaging public speaking abilities;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Skilled in the preparation & management of complex budgets; 
- Familiarity with the delivery of innovative Web-based educational programs including 
  distance learning, Webinars, digital portfolios, online exhibits, chat rooms, etc.; 
- Skilled in PC applications such as MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel;
- Ability to gain an understanding of multiple restricted and temporarily restricted 
  funding sources, including endowment and project-specific grant-funded activities;
- Ability to multitask and delegate duties; and
- Management experience with excellent team-building skills and the aptitude to expand 
  the Sharlot Hall Museum education resources. 

Preference will be given to applicants with a degree in history, anthropology, museum studies, museum education, or other closely related field and prior experience as a Museum Curator.  This position may involve working rotating shifts, limited statewide travel (including occasional overnight stays), and physical lifting of 20-24 pounds (displays, materials set-up, etc.).
