I work for a county operated museum and the financial end of it is rather
interesting. What, specifically, is your question?

The museum has a budget that covers salaries, supplies, preservation,
restoration, etc (each designated departmentally). Special events and building
renovation (we're building a new visitor's center currently) are handled from a
county budget for special services and community services. Profits from those
events are filtered back into the larger county system, where they continue to
profit our site as well as others.

Did that help at all?
