The Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum, Chicago, IL, is seeking a
full-time Evaluator to join the Adler's Evaluation and Project Development
Department.
Primary duties for this position are to conduct various front-end,
formative and summative evaluation studies for the development of
exhibitions, planetarium shows, and educational programs. An important
role for the Evaluator is to work with exhibit developers, content experts
and prototype builders to develop interactive exhibit prototypes for
testing with visitors. The Evaluator also leads project teams to develop
objectives and communication goals appropriate to the audience experience,
and provides feedback on text and design issues as needed.
Education required for this position is a BA or BS liberal arts degree.
Practical experience in evaluating the effectiveness of educational media
and the development of exhibits and programs in a museum setting is
required. Also required is the ability to organize and interpret data,
communicate clearly, both in written reports and in face-to-face contacts,
and interact comfortably with a wide variety of people. A Master's degree
in museum studies, psychology, educational psychology, anthropology,
sociology or science education is preferred. Experience with formal
research and the management of small projects is also preferred, as well as
fluency in one or more of the following languages: Spanish, German,
Polish, Japanese, and American Sign Language.
This position is grant funded beginning March 1, 1998. The salary range is
$26,623 to $35,941 depending on experience and education.
