Yes, that's how I got my first job! And yes, I got plenty of boilerplate
answers back, but I got lucky with a super job. All I needed was one "yes,"
so who cares about all those no's? I'm sorry if it costs you a little time
and postage. At least you write back.

Still, I think it's short-sighted to discard unsolicited resumes. I
received responses from museums several months after I started my first
job.  Although they didn't have the need for my skills at the time they got
my initial letter, their needs had clearly changed. Yours might as well.
