At the Holocaust Museum in D.C., I worked with the automatic counters for 4 or
so years. They tended to be very cranky (beams needing cleaning, backpacks
bumping and then disabling sensors) and subject to lots of human error. (Guards
pacing, etc.) On the other hand, we felt that using hand-held clickers might be
even more problematic.
We used an algorithm to determine a daily deduction for staff going in and out.
Hope this helps. If you would like any more information, please let me know.

 Subject: Automatic Visitor Counters

We're thinking about going to an automatic visitor counter and wonder ...

1. Any successes or problems with electric eyes?
2. How do you allow for staff, workmen, special events setups - where one
person may be going in and out numerous times during a day?

Hope everyone has a great week, and thanks for any feedback. You can reply
off-list if you'd rather.
