Hi,

Our Museum has been invited to acquire the contents of a local business upon cessation of its operations. We anticipate this cessation will occur within the year or in the immediate months ahead. My question is whether or not anyone is aware of literature or resources that may act as a guideline for such an acquisition - specifically the manner by which one should record the context and associations of the operation's objects? i.e.. the proper creation of visual (photographic and film) records, oral histories and inventories.

My opinion is that you only have one chance to get this right. Once the material is displaced, you've passed the point of no return. If we can do a better job on account of published resources or others' experiences, we would be very grateful..
