You might take a look at the Civil Rights in Mississippi Digital Archive
for USM.  While we don't work with art, some of the material in our
collection includes pamphlets and photographs with metadata that includes
descriptions of the photographs, as well as the title and other relevant
material.  If nothing else you can take a look at the site design. The
special collection also includes a variety of editorial cartoons also with
metadata.
