Sharon and Ann commented that having a list dedicated to NAGRPA issues would
be useful (to museum and native people interested in this topic), and they
question what might be the best route to establishing such a list. I don't
know if such a list already exists; poking around the LISTSERV and newsgroup
lists, I don't see anything exactly dealing with NAGRPA.

But, there is a list, NATIVE-L, and a newsgroup, soc.culture.native,
which seem as likely candidates for carrying on such discussion as is the
MUSEUM-L. However, in browsing the recent contents of both soc.culture.native
and MUSEUM-L, I think that NAGPRA, as a topic would either get buried in
the "noise" of all the other topics respectively discussed on each of these
lists, or NAGPRA discussions would create their own heat (on either of these
lists) and force people who otherwise don't "care" to sift through lots of
"irrelevant" discussions about museums (or native peoples' issues); both
these discussion groups seem to be quite active.

So, my gut feeling is that a discussion of NAGPRA probably deserves its own
group, where it will undoubtedly become a meeting ground for museum and
native peoples. (Interestingly, there is a recent posting on soc.culture.native
inquiring about North Amer museums where a person from Hawaii might do an
internship and discuss NAGPRA, among other things.)
