The American Association of Museums, in collaboration with the National
Gallery of Art and the Museums in Orlando Loch Haven Park, announces a
professional education seminar in its "Current Issues in Museums" series:
"Keeping Excellence on Staff: Retaining and Developing Your Most Valuable
Resource," Feb. 9-11, 1995, in Orlando, Florida.

This seminar focuses on building the strength and excellence of your
museum through retention of valued employees who provide continuity,
wisdom, reliability, and energy to the institution. We begin by
considering the broader context of museum employment and essential
personnel principles. Then, we turn to realistic methods for providing a
satisfying work environment and terms of employment to encourage talented,
experienced employees to remain on staff at your museum.

To keep abreast of current issues in the field generally, the seminar will
update important emerging developments in employment law and retirement
planning. In addition, we will take advantage of the program's location in
one of America's most famous tourist towns to learn how making visitors
welcome and happy depends upon good human resource policies and staff
training.

A special afternoon and evening session is sponsored by the National
Gallery of Art at the museums of Orlando. This seminar is for:
-- those who have attracted talented staff to their museum and want to
keep them;
-- those who want to plan for staff continuity in times of change; and
-- those who want to keep current on emerging issues in human resource
management.

Guest speakers include: Harold K. Skramstad, Henry Ford Museum and
Greenfield Village; Richard L. Gaynor, The Brooklyn Museum; Karen M.
Goering, Missouri Historical Society; Candace Matelic, Mission Houses
Museum, Honolulu; David Penn, Orlando Science Center, Charles W. Cammack,
Charles W. Cammack Associates; and Edward T. Brenner, American Assoc. of
Museums.

Some fellowship support is available for seminar fees and/or travel.
Deadline is Jan. 13, 1995.

Registration fees are $265 (AAM Members through 1/20/95); $325 (AAM Members
