I am interested in hearing from listers about whether they consider it
appropriate and useful for museums to offer to donate deaccessioned objects
to other museums through this list.  Typically, these would be objects that
do not have a significant  auction or resale value, but that might be useful
to smaller collections that do not have large acquisition budgets.  What
would your opinion be, also, about who should bear the shipping and
insurance costs?

My recollection is that this has happened occasionally on the list for
casework and other types of exhibition material, and I have searched the
archives and found at least one example of a museum using the list for this
purpose.
